I want to share my “lifting” session today.
I am restricted on how heavy I can go and even the intensity. Some days I’m in the mood for heavy lifting but I have to be smart so that I don’t have a flare up. In the end, 20 minutes is all that was needed for this light session of squats and deadlifts. As you can see, my heart rate stayed within the blue. Meaning it didn’t go beyond 123. I only burned 62 calories which isn’t very much. But it was never my intent beat myself up. I want us to begin thinking of our workouts as a practice, much like yoga. Yoga is a practice. Our workouts should be too. I only focused on two things: Squats and deadlifts. They weren’t heavy but they were purposeful. They weren’t fast, they were slow and controlled. Each rep taking the time to pause and feel that mind muscle engagement versus repping them out quickly to get it over with. I feel refreshed, accomplished and ready to go about the rest of my day. We don’t have to beat ourselves up to get where we want to go. It’s taken me decades to finally realize this mentally and physically. Be consistent. Celebrate those small wins and enjoy the process. What area of your life do you need to loosen the reigns a little or maybe even a lot?
